I thought I would blog about something that happened on our last day at the Texas State Fair in Dallas.
You know, as a mother, my eagle eye never relaxes and I am always conscious of where my girls are at all times. This sense is always a little intensified when we're far from home.
This last day we were there was a Sunday and the crowds were huge. The Dallas Cowboys were playing out of town, the weather was perfect and the last week of the fair had kicked off...so, everyone was coming to the fair. The foot traffic was shoulder to shoulder.
Keith had Mattie's hand, I had Beccah's hand, Nathallie was a few paces in front of us and Elizabeth was just a step or two in front of Nathallie with many people in between.
Keith and I had our eagle eyes on both girls. As we walked, we approached an intersection of sorts and the crowd thinned a bit. This is when we noticed a man walking very close to Elizabeth. To anyone else it could have been assumed that they were together. He was glancing over at her and appeared to be chatting with her. Elizabeth was totally oblivious to this. She was soaking up the fun sites and sounds and that's as it should've been.
Immediately when we saw this, Keith and I both hollered at Elizabeth that we needed to go another way. She turned back to acknowlege our call and said "o.k.". This guy was shocked and quickly looked all around with a surprised "oh your with somebody" look. He dashed out of the stream of traffic, and stopped to lean against the wall of one of the buildings...while still watching Elizabeth! Then he caught my wicked glance and he quickly looked away.
This really was creepy! What was this guys intentions? Was he crazy? We did not see him for the rest of the day.
Elizabeth is about to turn 17 next week and Nathallie will soon turn 12. Even at these ages I feel that I can't let my guard down...even though it irritates them to the nth degree! They are both very strong independant types and it becomes a little daunting to "stay with mommy & daddy"!
We didn't tell Elizabeth about this until the next day. We don't want to instill in her paranoia but just a healthy dose of caution and reality.
I know God has a constant hedge of protection around us. Thank You Lord!

I am thankful for those hedges! I'm thankful for the Holy Ghost keeping parents on HIGH ALERT! I have often wondered in such instances what I would do. Hubby and I were a tag team so to speak, and Thank God nothing ever happened. Sending prayers of comfort and power your way. (the amount of creep-os out there scare me, and my babies are grown, the great news is WE are stronger!!)
Yes, the Lord is our protector, as well as everything else.
Susan
The world needs more parents like you. We have to watch out for our children. It is the world's ways we have to worry about. Such a bad thing to happen to you, while even enjoying some family time together. I am sorry, I know it put fear into your heart. Our children do not understand that we are only trying to protect them. How did you all do at the fair?
